What a lead really costs you

Every lead costs you about $25, every sales meeting about $417, and every won deal about $2,500.

These are example figures, not a benchmark. Change the numbers to yours.

The funnel is doing the pricing: every qualified lead costs 3 times a raw lead, and a won deal carries the cost of every lead that went nowhere. Compare channels on cost per qualified meeting or per won deal, never on cost per lead.

How lead generation cost works

Cost per lead is the easiest number to quote and the least useful one to buy on. It is monthly spend divided by leads received, and it says nothing about whether anyone on the list could buy. A cheap lead that never becomes a conversation costs more than an expensive one that does.

The honest chain runs spend, leads, qualified leads, meetings, won deals. Each step divides the same spend by a smaller count, so the cost per unit rises as the unit gets more real. Most published pricing stops at the first step because the later ones depend on quality, and quality is where channels differ.

There is no universal benchmark for cost per lead in B2B. It moves with your market, your deal size and your definition of qualified, which is why this calculator asks for your own figures and labels its example as an example. Compare channels on cost per qualified meeting or per won deal over the same months, and the right choice usually becomes obvious.

Why this works on named accounts

Cost per lead is the wrong unit for large deals. When ten accounts could make your year, what matters is the cost of opening one of them: research, several conversations across the buying committee, and weeks of follow-through. That spend looks expensive per lead and cheap per account won. If your pipeline depends on named accounts, run this calculator on your current channel, then ask what the same budget would do pointed at the short list.

Common questions

How much does lead generation cost?

There is no honest single figure. The cost depends on your market, channel, deal size and what you count as a lead, which is why this calculator works from your own spend and your own lead count instead of quoting a benchmark.

What is a good cost per lead in B2B?

The one your later stages can afford. Divide your average deal value by the leads it takes to win one deal and you have the ceiling. A low cost per lead with a low qualification rate is usually dearer than a high one with a high rate.

What should count in the monthly spend?

Everything the channel consumes: agency or software fees, data, ads, sending tools and the time of the people who run it. Leaving out salaries is the most common way buyers under-count.

Why does the calculator ask for qualified leads and meetings?

Because cost per lead flatters every channel. Spend divided by qualified meetings or won deals is the number that decides whether the channel pays, and it is the one worth comparing across providers.
